Lockdown hasn't been a great time for most of us.
Whether it's fitness, diet, mental or financial health that has taken a hit, now is the time to hit the refresh button and start to make some positive changes to improve our physical health. One of the overwhelming themes of the pandemic and about the only thing the experts agree on is that being overweight will negatively impact a persons ability to cope with the coronavirus. On the other hand, being physically fit can reduce the severity of symptoms meaning a potentially easier recovery. Aiming for 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity, 5 times a week and 2 resistance workouts a week is what we should be aiming for as a minimum standard. Cardiovascular activities can simply be a dog walk or cycle ride but if you want to up, the couch to 5k is a great place to start. Resistance workouts should comprise of multi joint exercises (squats, deadlifts, bench press etc) as exercises allow us to lift the most amount of weight. Save your isolation exercises like bicep curls etc until you have developed some consistency with bigger movements.
